Writing

Our curriculum is based off of New York State's Next Generation Standards

Fourth graders will understand that:

  • Stories can connect to our lives and they are more than an author’s written text
  • Order can influence outcomes
  • Who is speaking influences what we comprehend
  • Evidence can be found in various modes of communication
  • Mistakes may be essential for development

Essential questions students will focus on:

  • What do good writers do?
  • How can other’s stories from the past relate to our lives today?
  • How would stories be different if time did not matter?
  • How do you determine what/who is good and what/who is bad?
  • Do we need characters to tell a story?
  • Is an errorless human superior to one who makes mistakes?
  • What are the power of words?
  • Who plans your future?
  • When can judging be good?
